I am a cis, white, queer woman and mother working to help folx understand their pasts and deepen their connections with others.
My Approach:
I operate with the belief that a strong therapeutic alliance is key to one’s mental health goals. In psychology-talk, I work from a modern psychoanalytic and attachment-focused perspective. In plain human being-talk, my practice is about cultivating a safe enough relationship so that you can be authentic and take meaningful risks sharing your feelings and getting emotional needs met.
When you feel safe and connected with those particularly tough feelings, you can access your deepest engrained behavioral patterns. From there you can start to explore new ways of managing your problems and relating with yourself / others.
Our work together will be centered around these essential values: compassion, collaboration, creativity, cultural sensitivity, and direct communication. Our time will be spent talking about your past and in-the-moment experiences. I don’t give out worksheets. You won’t find me following a script or rigid protocol. You’ll do most of the talking, and I’ll ask questions to help you feel seen, understood, and supported in making change.
When you participate in this work, you will uncover your self-worth and wisdom and have greater capacity to manage your emotions, resolve conflicts, and guide yourself through future hardships.
My History and Ongoing Development:
By nature and as a product of my upbringing, I am highly empathic and sensitive; these assets have always been my compass, even when I tried to diminish them. My desire to be a helper was born from my need to have greater emotional attunement and unconditional love. As with many (MANY) therapists and helping professionals, I started this career path as a way to learn to love myself and accept love from others. I believe all people have wounds, and I am no exception. I also believe that all people can mend and thrive. My history and ongoing challenges serve as a bridge to meet others where they are in their suffering and get them closer to where they want to go.
I’ve worked in various settings that have allowed me to serve the community, but not always as a therapist. My career path has had stops at shelters and helplines for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, school-based programs for under-resourced youth, wilderness-based education, psychiatric hospitals, and universities.
My Education and Credentials:
- Licensed Professional Counselor (TX 78788, MN 3093)
- Master of Arts (counselor education / educational psychology) from The University of Texas at Austin
- Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist, Level 2
- Member of Nurtured TX (formerly The Pregnancy and Postpartum Health Alliance of Texas)
